Book Description:
Janessa knows she should run in the other direction when Brendan enters her life. Her squeaky-clean upbringing is in direct opposition to his piercings, a myriad of tattoos and the rumors that surround him. But she doesn’t run. Love, betrayal and lies become the foundation of their lives, but one heartbreaking confession makes Janessa question everything. After a devastating diagnosis, Janessa’s world crumbles around her. When she can no longer ignore the reality of who Brendan really is, she must choose between those who love her and the only one she has ever loved.

My Thoughts :
I am well, well past the teenage years. In fact, I have two teenagers myself. Yet somedays, I can slide right back into that teenage mindset and remember what it was like to be a teen girl. Young, insecure, never enough in my own eyes. When I do that, I can see how Janessa started sliding down the slippery slope with Brendan.
Janessa was raised well with loving parents and an active church life. I bring this up to point out, that even the "good girls" can make the wrong choices and feel the pressure of not being enough. I do believe that her upbringing did help her in the end, to come back to what she knew and fight the temptation to keep repeating the cycle of Brendan's betrayal and use.
This book was very well written. The author brings us deeply into the lives of her characters that you feel you are living it with them. So many times, I'm yelling NO- Don't do that! NO Janessa! But just like in real life, the characters will follow their own course no matter what you say sometimes. My heart ached for Janessa, falling for this bad boy that she knew was trouble but unable to help herself. So many emotions are triggered while reading this book. I laughed and boy did I cry through parts.. I screamed at the characters to stop and sat and watched/read in agony knowing this was going to end badly.
A wonderful story that tugs your heartstrings over and over. Like many LifeTime movies, it is captivating and teaching all in one. I will be sharing this one with my teens while I sit back and am glad that I am in that mindset no more.
