What do you do when everything you've ever known is taken away from you? Do you throw your hands up and just let it be and fade away to nothing or do you fight? I may have technically died but I’m not dead and I refuse to give up everything I used to be or the woman who keeps my memory alive, even if it takes me tag teaming with some unlikely allies to do it. I may not be a human anymore but I am still me; Dylan Williams, a man of substance.

I am a small town girl with big dreams. I grew up in a small coastal community called Pamlico County in the town of Reelsboro North Carolina. Growing up in such a rural area there wasn't much to do, so I developed a wide fantasy finding solace in writing poetry and songs. After high school I left my little secure coastal town to discover other parts of the country. It was a sad and lonely time, but also a fun and exciting time in my life. I had too many emotions to process so I started to put it all down on paper. That became the start of my first novel, which I have yet to finish. My first complete novel entitled Protector was a dream come true, although I found out during the process, at 31 years old, I am dyslexic. Reading was always a struggle throughout my life and finding out why has really made a difference in me and my writing. It was such a wonderful and daunting process but I have succeeded in doing something I never thought I would do. I have 3 novels published, Protect, Protect Me and Too Close To Home and 2 more on the way. Writing is such a passion of mine and will continue to be whether I become successful with it or not. I currently live out side of my home town with my husband and daughter.

November in New York is cold but full of possibility for college freshman Erin Harris.  When her twin brother, Nick, shows up on her doorstep for a surprise visit, Erin is delighted.  Unfortunately, Nick's arrival coincides with the discovery of a body outside her apartment building, a body drained of blood.  Right away, Nick assumes vampires are involved.  He's not exactly their biggest fan since Erin dated one in high school.

Juggling nosy roommates, a first date with a gorgeous guy from college and a brother on a Van Helsing kick is enough to keep any nineteen year old girl busy.  And then Erin's old flame walks back into her life.

Is Erin destined to be caught up in supernatural shenanigans, or will she choose a different path?

* Beneath Manhattan Skies is a standalone story, following the character Erin Harris from Under the Desert Moon.

James turned. He stood on the edge of the roof, hands in his pockets, feet spaced apart. For half a minute, they simply looked at one another.

Erin shut the door and approached him, stopping a safe five feet from the edge. When she didn't move any closer, James removed his hands from his pockets. He was in front of her before she could blink.

He took her hands, drawing her forward. Fighting him was useless. She may as well have been a rag doll in comparison to his strength.

She gasped when he placed her at the very edge, facing out. James stood behind her, holding her lightly by the hips.

“Don't be afraid. I've got you.”

Emma Meade lives in Ireland where it rains a lot.  Reading and writing supernatural fiction, watching marathon re-runs of Buffy and drinking lots and lots of tea are some of her favorite activities.  She's never met a vampire, but thinks it would be kind of cool to meet one.

Book Description:

"With one last look, one final search of the lines of his face for some sign, Kira turned and ran away from the sound of the man she loved laughing in the face of her death."

When Kira Dawson moves to South Carolina, she meets Luke, a blond goofball who quickly becomes her best friend, and Tristan, a mysterious bad boy who sends shivers down her spine. Kira knows they're keeping secrets, but when she discovers Tristan's lust for blood and her own dormant mystical powers, Kira is forced to fight for her life and make the heartbreaking decision between the familiar comfort of friendship and the fiery passion of love.

Ignite is the first book in the Midnight Fire Series. It is approximately 65,000 words.

My Thoughts :

* Warning ~ I will try not to give any huge spoilers, but be warned I'm excited and have a hard time keeping a handle on my gift of babble. *

Ignite is the story of Kira Dawson,  normal teenage girl- or so she thought.  She leaves boarding school to move to South Carolina with her family which is an adjustment, never did she figure it would be such a big one!   Almost immediately, she finds a group of  tight knit friends and a bad boy to crush on.  Still it seems like her best friend and her mysterious bad boy are keeping secrets from her. As she finally discovers the secrets that Luke (best friend) and Tristan (bad boy crush) are keeping from her, she also discovers the unbelievable powers she holds deep inside.   Not only is she a super powerful being who can fight vampires in a unique way, she is a forbidden mix of races.

I absolutely love reading vampire books and everyone's different interpretations on which (if any) popular myths are true.  I felt by offering us the Conduits - these light bearing protectors- Kaitlyn offered a new and unique glimpse into the vampire /paranormal world.  As the story progressed, I felt myself waivering on who I wanted Kira to fall in love with :  Luke - the all around good guy and fellow conduit who can help her learn to harness her powers or Tristan- the sweet soul trapped in a vampire body who understands what it feels like to be an outcast, yet can be killed by her very light.  Obviously Luke is the easy choice and something in me wants her to pick easy just for once.  I think it's because he's such a good guy (not that Tristan isn't) and shouldn't the good guy win once in a while?

Between the brewing love triangle, the search for the truth about her parents and the amazing fights with vampires, I was kept on the edge of my seat for the entire book.  It moved along at a good pace and I was frustrated every time I was interrupted for any little need (don't the kids understand I can't feed them when I'm in the middle of a good book?).  One thing that I really loved was the ending- while it could have left us completely hanging, waiting impatiently for the next in the series, I felt there was enough closure to be satisfied and not agitated like I can be sometimes.  Naturally I was still yearning for the next book, but I felt there was some closure which to me gets an extra gold star !   I'll be back with reviews for the rest of the series as I get them read!   Can't wait!

*Note- as of the writing of this review, Ignite is FREE on Amazon!  Quick go grab it now!!

And now, onto the rest of the series......
