MY THOUGHTS :
This is the first book I've read by Cindy Miles -- yes, I started series at the second book *hangs head in shame*. I was thrilled to realize that this book is perfectly fine as a stand alone. While there are some areas that relate back to the first book, I was comfortable that I didn't need to read it first to understand things. Olivia & Brax (Book 1) play a large enough part of the book that as a series lover (had I read book 1 first like I should have) I would have been satisfied with being able to continue their story. But this story is about Kane & Harper. So let's get down to it:
Harper :
She is a smart level headed 'rich girl' who is president of her sorority. She appears to have it all - a nice car, money, brains. No one knows that this is all a facade and beneath it she is nothing but secrets and lies. A broken little girl who has never recovered from her parents brutal murder years ago.
Kane :
He is our smoking hot bad boy who comes into town to run numbers in the frat house. He appears to be everything Harper needs in her quest to 'fix' a bad boy. Underneath it all is the broken little boy who lived a hard life bouncing between foster homes. While falling for Harper might make him wish he could give up his illegal activity, he has a deep secret reason for why he won't.
I loved their back stories. Beneath the surface, our characters are broken and need some serious healing. Finding each other just might be the key to beginning their healing. I was drawn into their stories and felt that with their back stories, the author built them up to be such real characters. They broke my heart over and over with what they went thru and I was constantly cheering for them to find each other and a way to heal.
I felt it was a well written book and I think you'll enjoy it. It has more depth than some romances which I enjoyed! I'm off to read Book 1 now because I want some more of the characters I was introduced to! :)
