It began nearly four hundred years ago.  The Conall clan and all their people were murdered in a surprise attack, their beloved castle and all evidence of who destroyed them burned to the ground with their bodies.  In the centuries following, archaeologists searched through the ruins looking for any evidence of what or who had caused the untimely demise of such a powerful Scottish clan.  All efforts were fruitless, until a spell put in place by an ancient Conall ancestor finally began to work it's magic....

Texas kindergarten teacher, Brielle Montgomery, finds comfort in the mundane routines of her life, but when her archaeologist mother asks her to accompany her on a dig in Scotland, she decides to step out of her comfort zone.  Once in Scotland, they discover a secret spell room below the castle ruins, and Bri finds herself transported back in time an suddenly married to the castle's ill-fated Laird.  Now, she must work to change the fate of his people, all while trying to find a way to return to her home and century.  But with each passing day, Bri finds herself falling more deeply in love with her new husband.  If she can find a spell to bring her home, will she use it?  And if she stays, will it ultimately mean her own death as well?

My Thoughts :

I was quite impressed with this first book in the Morna's Legacy series!  I absolutely love historical romances, especially set in Ireland or Scotland! So when I was given the chance to read this (not historical but time traveling - in Scotland) I was thrilled !!   I've read a few time-travel novels before and one thing that always gets to me is trying to stay into it when the author switches back and forth between present and past time.. Claire managed this seamlessly and made the flow very natural.

Bri is a kindergarten teacher who is just getting thru life with no frills.  Blair is a forward thinking woman stuck in the 17th century and about to be married to the Laird of Clan Conall.  When a spell set years ago comes into play, the two switch places.  Blair is now in the present day where women are allowed to think their own thoughts and do as they want, while Bri is sent back to 1645 and on the adventure of a lifetime.

This is ultimately a love story...with a twist.  The two brothers (Eoin & Arran) fall in love with who they think is the same woman..  Watching Bri & Eoin fall in love is magical, yet a little heartbreaking knowing that if they stay together then Arran and Blair cannot be together..

Personally, I kept waiting to see what would happen.. Would Bri and Blair switch places again?  Would they find the ones plotting the murders?  What about Arran?? If Blair stays in the present time, where does that leave him and his love for her?  This was a great start to the series which left you fulfilled yet hungering for more!

Bethany's love of storytelling has been a life-long passion.  Even in her toddler years, she would sit down with anybody that would listen as she theatrically told them fairytales as if she was sharing life-saving information.

As she grew, she began creating stories of her own, but convinced it would serve her best to follow a "conventional" career path, she tucked them away and went off to college.

Fast Forward four years and about six major changes later, she realized the stories simply were not going to stay tucked away.  Six months away from graduating with a degree in Elementary Education, and growing more miserable with every day that brought her closer to a career she truly didn't want, she finally realized writing was the only career that was going to make her happy.

So, one day in the middle of a summer education course, she got up in the middle of class and walked to the Registrar's office and withdrew from the university on the spot.  Since then, she has devoted herself to writing full-time and following her dreams.

Bethany is the author of the Scottish, time-travel romance novels Morna's Legacy Series, which includes the novels , Love Beyond Hope, Love Beyond Reason, and her debut novel, Love Beyond Time.  She lives in the Texas Panhandle with her two loyal and perfect dogs.
