Book Description:

What do you do when everything you avoid, turns out to be exactly what you need?

Easy and predictable, just the way he likes it, Blake Daniels flies through life the way he burns through women: on his terms, no regrets.

With his fighting career in full swing, he's on the threshold of title contention.  But when his training is compromised by injury, the stakes grow impossibly higher.  The rage that fuels his punches also chips away his focus, and he risks losing everything he cares about.

He won't let that happen.  Not again.

Layla's through with men.  After a marriage that never should've happened, she hopes to reclaim the pieces of the woman she lost years ago.

Emotional abuse has left her insecure and terrified.  A master at faking what she's not feeling, she masks her self-doubt in false confidence.

She'll never let another man hurt her.  Not again.

Chased by shadows of the past, Blake and Layla know what they don't want, but their hearts have a different plan.  As a web of lies and betrayal threatens to destroy them, they are forced to make a choice.

Is love enough to heal even the deepest wounds?

Or will they be left Fighting to Forgive?

My Thoughts :

O.M.Gawd!  This book was beyond intense.   I literally could not put it down!  As I'm sure you can tell, I'm absolutely in love with Fighting to Forgive!   So let's break it down :

The storyline and plot work well for me.  Layla (aka Mouse) and her daughter Elle (Axelle Rose) have moved to Vegas in an attempt to start a new life away from the abusive husband from her past.   One thing I appreciated is how the author didn't gloss over the details in order to just focus on the new romance.  We see everyday the effects Layla's ex-husband had on her ( Black pants are for fat girls.)  and how she must force herself thru and beat back his voice in her head.   Layla and Elle are in that difficult stage between a mother and daughter (dreaded teen years) and even more there is resentment which neither talk about while it festers.

In comes Blake (aka Snake) who is a fighter with a secret.  He does not do strings or attachment and most definitely has nothing to do with women who have children.   Until Layla walks in.. Blake's walls are coming down as he falls deeper for Layla but something is off.  His temper is out of control and he worries that he is becoming his father (another abusive jerk to put it mildly). Blake is his own personal kind of f'ed up.   Putting two seriously messed up people together begs for issues but instead, we get this...

I fell in love watching Blake & Layla together.  Each struggling with their own issues but caring enough about the other to try and work thru the problems.  There is a lot of focus on domestic abuse, and marital rape.  It is not for the light-hearted.  It will tear at your heartstrings, all the while cheering for Layla and each small fight she wins in her own head.  Each are fighting their own demons and this book is very intense.   I read it straight through and then began reading it again.    I am looking forward to reading the first book ( Fighting for Flight )  as well as digging into the next book in the series ( Fighting to Forget) .   I give this one a resounding 5 Stars!

In fact - for those of you that *know* me by now.  I loved this book so much, that I went and purchased the first book with some of my beloved Amazon GC money..  It was that good !
