My Thoughts :
Hot Damn!! This is by far one of the best paranormal/sci-fi books I've read in a long time. I read it in one day and have already started it a second time. Yes, it is that good! When I first received the ARC, I was a little leary of "octopus shifters" thinking - wtf is that and how can it possibly be hot? Read on my dears... read on..
The author has managed to create a complex new world 50 years in the future after our world has been all but destroyed by war. The 'old gods' return to earth and new races are born. I loved that the complexities in the story were so easy to 'get'. Everything was explained well (not boringly over-explained, where you want to skip pages because you are so.tired.of.reading.descriptions) and in a way that it was natural to comprehend. New races, lots of gods - it all works!
Of the many characters, I fell in love with quite a few of them. Ari (Ariston) is our alpha male..
I absolutely love alpha males. Something about the Tarzan style chest thumping just does it for me. This story gave us a beyond awesome Alpha male (Ari) and an alpha female (Teagan), not something that normally mixes well. Instead of clashing, they actually compliment each other well. Unlike typical Alpha males, Ari actually loves how able Teagan is. There were also quite a few supporting characters that I can't wait to get to know more as the series evolves!
Not only is this a great romance with tons of fan-yourself sex scenes (o.m.g. - you may have thought you understood the tentacles, but you didn't.. Oh no, you didn't. If I were in this world, I would totally be finding me a Dagonite!), but it also has tons of suspense (who is trying to kill Teagan and WHY!). The plot moves along at a steady pace and twists itself around a windy road. So much going on, so packed full of awesome punch! I cannot wait for the next in the series to come out and can only hope the author will give me another ARC to read & review!!
