~ Excerpt ~
“Get dressed. We need to get Brooklyn some newclothes.” Ilisha rolled her eyes, but went upstairs to shower. As the water ran down her back and hit the tiles in a steady rhythm her mind drifted to Amy. She hated the fact that she was raising Brooklyn. Not because she didn’t love her, but because she should have had a long life with her parents. She would never know them. There would never be those daddy daughter moments when her first date rang the doorbell and her father was sure to be cleaning his gun. Damon of course would protect her, but in a much different way than a human. Damon would snap the neck of anyone that hurt Brooklyn. On top of that Amy would never get to spoil her on her wedding day and make sure she was the most beautiful bride. Ilisha even cringed at the thought of dropping her off for the first day of kindergarten.
She dressed in a purple pair of skinny jeans, flat shoes, a spaghetti strap tank, black leather jacket and a cream silk scarf. Her long black hair fell down her back perfectly straight.
Damon came in the master bedroom holding Brooklyn’s hand. He had her dressed in a sweater and jeans. Her tiny Converse sneakers clapped across the floor with her marching type walk. Damon let go of her hand and she lost her balance and fell forward catching herself with her hands. Ilisha held her arms out and Brooklyn righted herself and made it across the room to be scooped up.

Avid Cleveland Browns fan, animal lover, and paranormal addict are just a few ways to describe Shadow Stephens. Shadow grew up in Ohio and West Virginia, which gave her a fear of snakes and the ability to fix anything with duct tape. She has been writing since childhood, but wrote her first novel three years ago. She now resides in Utah with a veritable menagerie of pets and a million ideas in her head just waiting to be put on paper.
