I'm pleased to welcome author Audrey Bell to the blog today! Today she's talking about the joys of reading and writing. I hope you enjoy it and read more about her new Contemporary NA book Carry Your Heart below ! Enjoy !
One of the miracles in my life was discovering books. Not
just any old books, but the kind of suck-you-in-deep-until-the-very-last-page
books. The kind that make you feel like the most important thing happening in
your life is the next sentence. The kind that make you forget you’re even
reading.
Another of the miracles was discovering writing. Writing let
me take all of my delusional what-ifs and turn them into something concrete.
I’m the kind of girl who never sits through a movie, because an idea will pop
into my head about what I want to
happen, and it will drive me crazy that I can’t make it happen. When I write, I
get to make all of those what-ifs happen.
In a lot of ways, writing is like the opposite of life.
Everything that happens is in your control. But, the one thing you can’t
control turns out to be the most important thing. And that’s the way that your
readers will experience your book.
How does Hunter’s laugh sound to their ears? How does Pippa
look when she’s skiing? Realizing that even though I wrote the book, my readers
are likely going to experience it differently has been one of those scary and
very cool moments about this process.
It’s also been eye-opening to me as a reader. Every book
that I’ve read is a little bit my own story. Even when someone else came up
with it, you still get to create your own version of events.
