Mrs. Eyres makes Briony sleep in the kitchen, cook, clean and tend to her and her daughter’s every whim. Seven years pass and one day Briony meets 19 year old Tom Logan, the sixth richest man in the country. She slowly starts to fall in love with the charismatic teenager, the only question is; can she win his heart before her evil stepsister does?

Excerpt :

Miss Carpenter turns away and Mrs. Eyres marches to the door and slams it shut. Miss Carpenter looks ahead with a vacant expression before she walks quietly through the courtyard. Mrs. Eyres, meanwhile, takes a breath and composes herself and then looks at her daughter who still stands by the staircase.

“Go and find her.”

Lucy nods and walks upstairs. By now Briony is lying on her bed with tears streaming down her face. She opens the locket.

“What shall I do?”

A second later the door flings open and Lucy marches in and snaps, “Mum said from now on this is my room.”

“Well your mother is wrong.”

“No she’s not.”

“Yes she is!”
Mrs. Eyres enters and says in her usual calm way, “Don’t be so impertinent child. I have the law on my side. But I do have another place for you to sleep.”

Mrs. Eyres throws Briony into a darkened kitchen and tells her, “From now on this is your room.”
Briony looks around and sees heaps of dirty dishes in the sink. Dirty laundry bundled near the washing machine and cobwebs hanging from the beams.

Mrs. Eyres continues, “You will eat here. Sleep here. You will cook, clean and do the laundry. You will not complain. Not answer back. And if you try to run away, I assure you, you will be found. Still, I do wish for you to have a decent education. Therefore, you will go to school every day until your eighteenth birthday. And one more thing.”
Mrs. Eyres marches up and holds her face taut, “Keep this our little secret and everything will be well.” Eyres lets go of her face and walks to the door, then glances back and says, “Sleep well Briony. You’re going to need it.”

About the Author :

My name is Priya Narendran and I have been a fan of fairy tales and paranormal fiction for years.  I started writing when I was seven years old and haven’t stopped writing since. So far I have written 2 books and I am in the process of writing my third.
As well as writing, I’m an avid film buff.  My favourite films include My Fair Lady, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Shining and Beauty and the Beast (Disney version).
Cinderella is also one of my favourites and I decided to change things a little by making the little Cinder girl appear a little more daring and quite intelligent. I hope you enjoy reading my book as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it.
