Welcome, welcome! Today I'm happy to be a part of the Plus One book tour by Bewitching Book Tours. For our stop today, I chose to interview the author Brighton Walsh. Stay tuned for more about her book and a chance to win it for yourself !
Let's move onto the interview :
1. What inspired you to write this story?
When I first decided to try my hand at original fiction, I was actively seeking writing prompts to sort of get my feet wet. I came across a call for submission from a smaller press. The call was for “secret crushes” in whatever way, shape or form we wanted to write them. From that little prompt, Plus One sort of blew up in my mind.
2. What is the main lesson that your book is trying to teach?
To not give up on love. I’m a hardcore romantic, and whenever I hear friends say they’ve given up on the dating scene, a little part of me dies. Okay, I’m being dramatic, but seriously. If you don’t want love and really enjoy being single, that’s cool. But if you do, don’t give up on finding it. Even if you have to go out on a date with a plumber who discusses his work over dinner.
I love it! I agree completely, although I'm not really one to talk since I married my high school sweetheart and first real boyfriend. lol
3. Moving on to your writing career, how long have you been writing? Did you
always dream to become an author?
I’ve been writing for years and years and years. I used to write these really morose and emo poems when I was a tween. They were awful. So awful I cringe whenever I come across them. When I was a teen, I branched out and dabbled in some humorous writing (along with the morose, obviously). And I recently came across a smutty story I wrote when I was about fourteen (don’t tell my mom) that I had absolutely no recollection of. So I guess it’s always been in my blood.
I hope your mom doesn't read this interview! :) I haven't written in ages but I too used to write some smutty stories when I was a teen.. Amazing since I led a very sheltered life. lol. Guess I've always had a good imagination!
4. I’m always curious whether or not authors read the same types of books that they write. So tell us, what book genres do you love to read? to write?
4. I’m always curious whether or not authors read the same types of books that they write. So tell us, what book genres do you love to read? to write?
I write what I read, for the most part. While I love a good paranormal romance, my favorite to read (and write) is contemporary romance. I do have a couple plot bunnies for some paranormal, but they seem to fall by the wayside.
As long as there's romance in it, I'm there! :) I do like paranormal but I wonder if it's because it's so popular right now and readily available? I can't say I necessarily prefer it over contemporary romance.
5. What are you reading right now?
I’m just starting Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (yes, I’m a Harry Potter virgin). I’m also reading No Flowers Required by Cari Quinn, because one can’t live on MG/YA alone.
What?!! A Harry Potter virgin? I didn't think such a thing existed anymore! lol
6. Have any particular authors inspired you to write? If so, can you name one and what you like about their style?
None that inspired me to write, per se. But there are a handful of contemporary romance authors whom I love and will drop everything to read something new from: Jill Shalvis, Ruthie Knox, Meg Maguire, Shannon Stacey.
7. Do you have any upcoming projects?
Yes! As for releases, I have a longer novella coming out the end of the year as part of the annual Carina Press holiday anthologies. I also have a short story in a Cleis Press anthology coming out February 2014.
As for writing, I have a few that I’m currently juggling—the second in the three-part companion series I’m writing, a new adult, and a darker, edgier contemporary erotic romance.
Thanks so much for stopping by! I enjoyed our visit today! :)

Book Description:
Olivia hates the singles scene, so when her best guy friend, Ian, offers to be her plus one to a series of weddings she has to attend, she agrees. Although she doesn't want to complicate their lifelong friendship, she can't pass up the chance to have a steady date without the dating drama. What she doesn't expect is to now find Ian so incredibly sexy.
When Ian sees his old friend Olivia dolled up for wedding #1, the boyhood crush he once nurtured transforms into smoldering attraction. It doesn't take long for their no-strings arrangement to turn physical. But as Olivia's desire to stay "just friends" becomes clear, Ian's feelings are deepening. In the time they have together, how will Ian convince Olivia that one plus one can make for a lifelong pair?
About the Author :
Brighton Walsh is a storyteller at heart. Whether through words or pictures, she's been weaving tales for as long as she can remember. After decades of cultivating her writing, she finally decided to give life to the voices in her head and set forth to write her first novella. Love is her first love, and writing about it is a dream come true. When she's not writing, you can find her with her nose buried in a steamy book or partaking in some retail therapy. She lives in the Midwest with her swoony husband and two energetic kids who (fortunately) know nothing about the naughty things she puts down on paper.
