#Review : Coloring Novels (TM) by @emilyanngirdner + $15 #Giveaway

Welcome friends!! It's been a long time since I've picked up pen (so to speak) and written a review!  Life has gotten beyond hectic, but that's another blog post!  When life is beyond stressful, a good book is normally my solution to escape into!  But some days, even the best of books can't turn off the worries.  Did you know that coloring is a proven tool to help cope with stress and anxiety?  I personally LOVE coloring!  The entire idea behind these books is just genius! Not only do you get to read a fabulous old tale, it's redone with pictures for you to color throughout!

I was given Beauty and the Beast to review.  A tale as old as time....  and one of my favorites!  The beginning & end of the book is filled with pages to color at will. Once the story begins, there are pictures here and there throughout it that go along with the story! I LOVE this idea because I'm always wondering if I'm picturing part of the story like the author was imagining it!

If you love coloring and stories like me, take a moment to check these out! You won't be disappointed!
** Note, coloring should be done with colored pencils or perhaps a very sharp crayon (I do love crayons!).  Gel pens or sharpies may bleed thru. **

#Review - Crystallum (Primordial Principles 1) by @laneymcmann

Crystallum
(Primordial Principles #1)
Laney McMann

Published by: Booktrope Publishing
Publication date: October 25th 2015
Genres: Urban Fantasy, Young Adult

Blurb:

Kadence Sparrow wasn’t born a devil’s child—she was turned into one. Now, she’s hiding from the truth, and running for her life.
For years, Kade’s true nature has lurked behind an illusion, so when her dad gets another job transfer, she knows the drill: no close friends, no boyfriends, and most importantly: don’t expose what she is. Ever. Keeping secrets is easy. Lies are second nature. So is the loneliness—and the fear, but when the Shadows attack, and Kade meets Cole Spires, she could expose everything she’s trying to hide.
As one of the Celestial Children, Cole lives by an oath: defend the Ward, protect the Primordial race, guard the gateways, and stick to his own. Everything else is a distraction, and besides, he’s lost enough. Cole’s job is clear, and no one his age does it better. So, when he meets Kade in a club downtown, he assumes she just wants his attention. Most girls do, but Cole soon realizes … Kade isn’t like most girls.
The children of heaven and hell are living among us, fighting an age-old war. And falling for someone from the opposition is not an option. But a chance encounter between Kade and Cole will blur the rules, as Kade’s journey to keep her truth hidden catapults them together and into a web of lies, forcing her to not only face the demon inside her, but to answer the hardest question of all.
Which is thicker—blood or water?

My Thoughts :

This was a complicated book.  One that I felt made you really pay attention.  The author really didn't give you a lot of backstory, instead forcing you to read on and understand slowly.  This may irritate some but it kept me intrigued.  I felt like this book reminded me in parts of a mix of Twilight and Immortal Instruments. It really is a good blend, yet it's own unique story!  Once I got started I read the book straight through on a lazy Sunday. It was a day well spent!

Naturally you will fall in love with Cole. He's our bad boy alpha that we all love. Kade was an interesting character. I think her secret irritated me in that I didn't fully understand it until she revealed it to Cole. For that reason, it took me a little while to fully understand her character and really like her. How Cole feels about Kade makes you really like her. Let's be honest here, Cole makes the story for us! :)  Love him!

The book went along steadily with some twists that you would except but few that came out of nowhere and threw you for a loop!   I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series and to learn more about the supporting characters as well!  I think you'll enjoy this one!  Give it a try!

Author Bio:

Laney McMann is the author of The Fire Born Novels (TIED, TORN, & TRUE) and The Primordial Principles series (CRYSTALLUM, book #1 ~ Fall 2015).

She writes young adult dark urban fantasy novels mixed with a spike of romance, a hint of history, a dash of mythology, and lots of paranormal.
On the non-writing side of life, Laney is a former classical dancer, music snob, chef, and a right-brained thinker to a fault. When she's not dreaming up new dead ends to torture herself with, she spends her time running.

My Thoughts :

What can I say about this book that I haven't already said about all of Catherine's other books? I loved it :)  All of the Weekday Bride books could be read alone but since they all relate to one another and older characters are in each new installment, it only makes sense to read them in order. Just my bit of advice!  Now onto this book..

We first met Gabi back in Meg's & Val's story.  Although a side character, she went through so much that you just knew that you needed to read her happily ever after.  Catherine has given us all that we could have asked for !

Gabi is sensitive, drawn into herself and afraid of men in general. Meeting and subsequently being bullied into marriage with Hunter was actually a blessing for her.  She is forced to come out of her shell and begin to live again.  Sure, we see a LOT of anger in the beginning but it's all part of the healing process.  And quite honestly, as much as I like him - Hunter is a bit of an ass from time to time.  At least he can pick out flowers :)  I was thrilled with how this story line went and being able to see Gabi recover from her traumatic past.  The girl is something special !

Hunter is a billionaire with his own secrets and likes to let everyone assume that he is his bad-boy-doesn't-give-a-damn persona.  In fact, he's an onion people. He has many layers. (Yes I just quote Shrek. lol) Deep down, Hunter has the heart that makes him a great leading man :)

The only downfall to this book is that it is BOOK 7.  Do you even realize what that means?? It's the end of the Weekday Brides.. Sure we get to have some Holiday Bride books coming soon but this is still an ending ... sigh.  How will we cope?  I , for one, will probably have to go binge read the entire series again. Lol :)   Happy reading everyone !!

EXCERPT:

“I think we should talk about what’s going on here.”

She swallowed. “We’re cooking.”

“Gabi, look at me.”

She shook her head, taking the coward’s way out. If she noticed the lock of hair falling into his eyes a second time, she might have to push it back in place.

“Gabriella?” The smooth texture of his voice was like chocolate on her tongue.

His sticky hand tucked under her chin and forced her to meet his gaze.

He stepped closer, his frame molding to hers and pressing her back against the counter.

She couldn’t breathe.

His thumb traced her bottom lip. “This is a bad idea,” he mumbled her thoughts.

She nodded. “Very poor choice.” Her hands gripped the side of the counter to keep from touching him.

Hunter sucked in a deep breath. “You smell like flowers.”

“I’ll change my shampoo.”

He started to dip his head and she kept talking. “Something musky, so you won’t notice me.”

“I don’t think that’s going to work.”

He was close enough to catch the scent of mint on his breath. “I don’t even like you.” One of her legs lifted and rubbed against one of his.

“I don’t trust you.” His hand moved from her lip the side of her neck.

“You blackmailed me.”

“You tricked me into cooking with your mother.”

She smiled. “The two hardly compare.”

Instead of dropping his lips to hers, he detoured to the side of her neck and kept talking, his breath brushing her skin. “Have you met your mother?”

“That’s sill—”

His lips found her neck.

She moaned and closed her eyes. Such a deliciously bad idea.

My Thoughts:

My rating: 3.5 stars

I'm pretty sure I got this free during a time that it was free on Amazon and just now finally got around to reading it. I am always a bit leary of new authors and free books. I'm can't resist one-clicking those freebies but it's always hit and miss!

I really liked this one! I haven't read Nadia Lee's books before but now I'm going to be checking out more of hers and definitely more on this family! Mark is a likeable guy while Hillary irritated me a tad.

I'm conflicted on Hillary. She works hard at her job and makes herself irreplaceable. She tries her best to be completely different from her dysfunctional family. She chooses guys by making sure they are 'safe'. Yet she still lives at home with her Aunt. I want to smack her on the back of the head. GET completely away from the crazies Hillary! Let's not even get started on the 100% certified crazy that is her cousin Bebe. *shudders*

Mark has his own share of family dysfunction but he doesn't surround himself with it like Hilary does. He is very likeable and I love the lengths he goes to to prove himself to Hilary. I find that a lot of "billionaire" books the male is usually more power hungry & unlikeable. Mark isn't your typical rich guy. He knows how to use his money but he seems more down to earth. His interfering mother - GRRR!

A quick read that was enjoyable! There's definitely lots of sexual tension with only one steamy scene but it's the perfect amount for this book. There is so much going on that you don't need tons of steamy scenes to make the book :)

If there’s one thing that Bridgette Reynolds has learned recently, it’s that the perfect shoes, the perfect hair, and the perfect dress do not make for the perfect proposal. In fact, sometimes they make for the not-so-perfect breakup. Now, Bridgette must do everything in her power to win Adam back. She knows they are meant to be. My Thoughts :

Speak Now grabbed me from the beginning! This is the perfect escape/beach read - light and fun, amusing with some tearful moments.  We start out with our heroine thinking she is going to be proposed to only to get dumped. What the what?  Immediately I'm wondering how she has read this situation so wrong and feel for the poor girl.  From being dumped, to watching her ex-boyfriend  propose to his brand new girlfriend at the dinner table with her sitting across from them, to reconnecting with her old sweetheart (and still love of her life) only to find out he's taken as well!  This girl is put through the wringer! I knew the author was going to have to find a way to make things right for poor Bridgette !

I absolutely loved the supporting characters! Bridgette's grandma quoting 50 Shades had me giggling and the drama between her two besties made sure things were always happening!  This book was filled to the brim and I had a hard time putting it down!  I was kept constantly guessing who's wedding was going to be stopped and what would happen to the other party!!

If you enjoy a good chick- lit book, I think you'll love this one!

#BookReview- The Only One by @Tawdra #Contemporary #GrabYourTissues #EndOfTrilogy

I know, I know.  I already mentioned last week that The ONLY One is finally here!  The finale to The One Trilogy. Naturally, I've already read it ... a few times. So check out my thoughts below.

The Only One
(The One Trilogy, Book 3)
by:  Tawdra Kandle

Publication: April 7, 2015
ISBN:  1511442395
ASIN:  B00STNF9FQ
Length:  266 pages
Genres:  Contemporary Romance

Blurb:

Mason Wallace left his hometown to live his dream: he had the perfect career, a gorgeous wife and a beautiful baby girl. He was on top of the world, until it all shattered with the sudden death of his wife. Now he’s back in Georgia, running his bar and trying to take care of his family. And he needs all the help he can get.

Rilla Grant’s never been farther than twenty miles from her family’s farm. Her overprotective father wants her to marry their church’s youth pastor and settle down into the life he’s chosen for her, but she’s not sure that’s what she wants anymore. Rilla’s chafing to make her own choices, and that includes starting her own PR business and maybe even moving off the farm, no matter how much her dad hates it.

When Mason asks Rilla to work on some promotion for his bar, she’s both excited and terrified. Excited, because it’s just the opportunity she’s wanted, and terrified because Mason, with his intriguing hazel eyes and drool-worthy body, is the kind of guy who makes her knees weak and her heart pound. He’s the only one who’s ever tempted Rilla to defy her family, and when she does just that by moving in to help take care of his daughter, they’re both forced to make a decision that’ll change their lives forever.

Sometimes love isn’t the easy choice. Sometimes it’s the only one.

MY THOUGHTS:

I cried a few pages in on this one. What can I say? I'm a wuss. We all know that this is the story of Mason- widowed single dad & Rilla- sheltered, man-shy girl. I think the fact that we have to relive Mason's loss is pretty much a given that we are going to need tissues.

The Only One is the story of family, of second chances, of finding love for the first time and the last time. It is the story of learning to let go of the pain of loss and to be brave enough to love again, despite the possibility of experiencing that pain again. It is the story of having the courage to leave your comfort zone , of knowing you want more out of life and reaching for it.

I laughed ... I cried (too much)... I wanted to hit certain stubborn men at times. *cough* Mason *cough*

The Only One is a book that you won't want to put down and the epilogue is just perfect. I couldn't ask for a better ending to a trilogy - well except that maybe the trilogy didn't end! lol. Read on my friends, you won't be disappointed!

For the record, I kinda want to smack the author for the titles of the series. While I love them and they fit completely, I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have played "Who's on first?" trying to tell someone about this series. "You have to read The Last One! ...  no, it's actually the first book in the series.  And then be sure to read The First One!  ...  no, it's the second book in the series not the first book, remember I said The Last One was the first one? "  sigh.  It's a mess.  My husband is sure that the author will cheat (this being a trilogy and supposedly done) and come out with just one more - title it The Middle One- just to mess with our heads :) lol

*I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts/opinions are 100% my own. *

Don't miss the first two books in The One Trilogy!

The familiarity of home, the warmth of family ties, the sweet sensation of being wrapped in the arms of THE ONE love that meant everything. . .each story is a remarkable package of all this and more.

TLOEbookSWThe Last One

The One Trilogy Book 1

Meghan Hawthorne is restless. The last year has been a roller coaster: her widowed mother just married a long-time family friend. Her younger brother unexpectedly became a father and a husband. Everyone's life is changing. . .except for hers. As she begins her final summer of college, Meghan's looking for excitement and maybe a little romance. Nothing serious; this girl just wants to have fun.

But the only man for Meghan turns out to be the last one she expects.

Sam Reynolds doesn't need excitement, and he doesn't want romance. Fun is out of the question. He's been the steady, responsible one since his parents were killed, and serious is his way of life.

When Sam rescues Meghan alongside a dark Georgia backroad, she falls hard for his deep brown eyes and slow drawl. But making him see her as more than just a party girl won't be easy. Sam's tempted by the fiery young artist, even as he realizes that giving into his feelings will mean radical change. . .maybe more than he can handle.

Nobody ever said love was simple.

"As an almost strictly paranormal romance reader, it takes a certain type of author to convince me to dive into straight romance. Tawdra Kandle is one of the few authors I will make an exception for. Her writing style is so easy and relaxing that I have to really keep an eye on the time or I’ll stay up all night to finish one of her books."   Carrie Williams, Goodreads Reviewer

"Wow. Talk about romance with an edge. From the beginning the characters were so real that I was completely invested in them. The sexual tension woven into the story added so much value to the relationships. I will be reading this book many times just so I can spend more time with Meghan and Sam." Cheryl Garrett, Goodreads Reviewer

"I'm in love with this book!!" Leah Fennick, Goodreads Reviewer

The First One

The One Trilogy Book 2

Ali and Flynn were high school sweethearts. Eager to see the world and leave behind their small Georgia hometown, they’d planned for an exciting new life together after they finished school. But on graduation day, only one of them hit the road. Eight years down that road, an unexpected loss brings Flynn home again. He’s a big-shot photo journalist, and he’s made most of his plans reality. But he’s done it alone. Is it too late for his biggest dream to come true? Ali’s spent those years working hard, raising a daughter and helping her brother keep their family farm alive. Thinking about Flynn and what might have been is a pain she tries to avoid. . .even when it’s impossible to forget. Flynn’s return brings back feelings Ali thought were long dead and hopes she’d abandoned. Finding their way back to each other will change them forever, opening old wounds and stirring up memories. Can first love be the one to last forever?

"Tawdra Kandle knows how to weave a story that is both steamy and heartfelt. I cannot even tell you how many times I was brought to tears while I read The First One. I've been waiting for Ali's story ever since I finished reading The Last One, and I was not disappointed." Melissa at Reading It All

"This was a beautifully executed romance that managed to change around all my preconceived notions about Flynn and Ali from the previous book. I started the book determined to hate Flynn all the way through for abandoning his family, but somewhere along the line I began to hope for happiness between these two. Amazing!"
