Knight Blindness
( Knights in Time Series, Book 3)
by: Chris Karlsen

Publication:  July 2013
ISBN:  1491019123
ASIN:  B00E2QS488
Length:  395 pages
Genres :   Historical Romance, Medieval

Book Description:

Ready for battle, Medieval English knight, Stephen Palmer, charges into the French enemy’s cavalry line. Heeding a warning given months before, he hesitates as he comes face-to-face with the knight in the warning. Struck down in the year 1356, he finds himself landing in the year 2013. Grievously wounded, he’s taken to a nearby hospital. Confused by the new world surrounding him, he attempts to convince the staff he’s from another time, only to find they think him mad.

Rescued by friends, who, to his surprise, have also come through time, he must find a way to function in this odd modern England. He is quickly enchanted by the kind Esme Crippen, the young woman hired to tutor him. She too is enchanted by him. Tempted to deepen the relationship, she hesitates thinking him adorable, but mad. He must discover the means for getting her to believe the truth, all the while, unknown to him, he didn’t come forward in time alone. The enemy knight has also traveled to 2013.

French noble, Roger Marchand, doesn’t question why the English knight who charged him hesitated. That fraction of a pause gave him the advantage needed and he brought his sword down upon the Englishman’s helmet hard, unhorsing the knight. He moved to finish the Englishman off when the world changed in a rush of sensations as he is ripped through time.

Seeking a reason for the terrible event, he enters a nearby chapel. There, thinking God has chosen him for a quest to turn French defeat that day in 1356 to victory, he sets out to find the English knight. The man he is convinced holds the key to time. If he returns to the day of the battle, he can warn his king of mistakes that snatched victory from them.

My Thoughts :

I tend to review a lot of books nowadays.  I get requests and can't get to them for months down the road many times. So when authors send me their books, I stick them in a cupboard above my computer and put a post-it note on them with the date the review is due.  Sometimes, life gets in the way and I don't get to my review books as early as I'd like.  I've made way too many trips to the dr for various kids this month and it was a life-got-in-the-way type of month.   I pulled Knight Blindness out the other day and hoped I'd have time to do it justice.    I worried for nothing-  This book is such a quick engrossing read!  I read it in one day!!!

Back in the day , BR (before reviews), I read A LOT of historical romances.  Those still are my very favorite sub-genre of romance.  I love knights, lords and ladies. I love the time when life could be hard but chivalry prevailed.    Knight Blindness is story of a knight, Stephen Palmer, who in the midst of battle is mysteriously brought forward into present day time.  Thankfully he has a few friends from his time  ( see books 1 & 2) who find him and are able to help him out.  Seriously wounded and now blinded by an attack during the battle in his own time - not only is he thrust into a new era of living, but also at the disadvantage of having no vision to see the changes that have been wrought.   Still Stephen maintains his chivalry.    Yes, I may have fallen just a little bit in love with him :)

The author did a wonderful job piecing together this book.  One thing that I especially enjoyed was that although it is Book 3 in a series, it could read fine as a stand alone.  I personally did not read the first two books (yet, because you can bet your pants I'm going to check them out now!) and while there are some hints to them, you get along just fine and don't feel lost at all without having read them.   The battle scene and Stephen's stories of other battles were written in such a way that you can see them play out in your head as you are reading..

By far, my favorite parts about the book was the laughter I got.  Laughter ? In a romance? Oh yes.  So many things made me giggle - almost always in conversation between Stephen and his love interest Esme.  I wish now I had marked the passages as I read it and giggled so I could share them with you!   Regardless,  knights +  love story + laughter = a solid win in my book!  I hope you'll check it out!!

A look at the first books in the series :

*****

A man stood a few feet away. At least what was visible looked like a man. He appeared to be a knight, similar to the one in her favorite painting, except semi-transparent. He wore mail and a dark blue surcoat with a leopard embroidered on it in bronze silk. Tall, with shoulder length hair, in the soft lamplight, his eyes were as black as his hair.

Book 2
Publication:  September 2011
Length :  354 pages

Book Description:

London attorney, Shakira Constantine finally agrees to spend the day with her handsome client, Alex Lancaster. While riding in the countryside, the couple finds themselves caught in a time warp and transported back to the 14th century-and an England preparing for war. Everyone believes Alex is the Baron Guy Guisard, a baron who died in the upcoming battle.

If they can’t find a way to return to the 21st Century, Alex will have to sail with the army to certain death. Shakira will be left alone to survive in the alien and terrifying medieval world.

Excerpt:

“Alex, what is going on?” she asked in a frenzied whisper.
“Shh.” After they mounted, Alex sidled over, so close their boots touched. “We’re riding into a very perilous situation. I’ll explain everything when we’re alone. Your life, my life,” he stressed, “depends on you being quiet until then.”
Confused it took Shakira a few seconds before she nodded yes.
“Remember what I told you,” he warned and trotted ahead to chat with the knight he called Simon.

I was born and raised in Chicago. My father was a history professor and my mother was, and is, a voracious reader. I grew up with a love of history and books.

My parents also love traveling, a passion they passed onto me. I wanted to see the places I read about, see the land and monuments from the time periods that fascinated me. I’ve had the good fortune to travel extensively throughout Europe, the Near East, and North Africa.

I am a retired police detective. I spent twenty-five years in law enforcement with two different agencies. My desire to write came in my early teens. After I retired, I decided to pursue that dream. I write two different series. My paranormal romance series is called, Knights in Time. My romantic thriller series is, Dangerous Waters.

I currently live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband, four rescue dogs and a rescue horse.

Luggage backs up, causing one bag to fall off the machine. Angry travelers glare at me, as if I've made it my mission in life to make them late. Only one person doesn't make me feel like a total jerk. He looks like a cowboy with his wide-brimmed brown leather hat, pointy boots and belt buckle. I suck in a breath when we make eye contact, his blue eyes two shades darker than mine. This is the kind of man writers dedicate romance novels to. Broad chested with ropes of muscles under his shirt, strength earned from real work not a gym, skin sun-kissed and glowing. He smiles at me and my knees go weak.

Le sigh.

Feeling the heat rush to my face, I nod my head in my most regal fashion and turn away as the scrawny 20-something guy working behind the x-ray machine asks me to follow him so he can inspect my bag.

He steps to the side and opens my red carry-on, shuffling through my iPad, a change of clothes and other staples I was told to always carry with me in case my luggage was ever lost. There are perks to being one of the youngest in a family of world travelers.

My jaw drops when he pulls out a gallon sized plastic baggie and dumps the contents—items I've never seen before in my life—onto the counter. Holding up a pair of red G-String panties with a matching bra, if that slip of silk can be called a bra, and a handful of—oh my God—condoms?

He smirks at me and reads aloud the note that's in the baggie. "Winter, Have some fun this summer. Here's a starter sex kit to help you out. All my love, your favorite cousin, Daring."

I want to die.

I want the floor to open up and swallow me, or lightning to strike me dead.
I want them to arrest me, just so I can get away from the dozens of eyes taking in my humiliation.

I fight the urge to tell them I have a bomb, or maybe that I am the bomb. Or to tell them I'm a drug mule. Anything to divert attention from the most embarrassing moment of my entire life.

And then I remember the hot cowboy.

Who's standing behind me.

Who heard and saw everything.

My cheeks, I can already feel, are a flaming red. I probably look like my head is about to explode. I wish it would, so I won't have to live in this moment any longer.

An older woman, probably the supervisor, grabs the note and the panties from the jerk staring at me. "I think you've sufficiently searched this bag." She nods sympathetically at me and shoves Daring's gift back under my clothes, zipping my suitcase shut. "Sorry for the inconvenience, ma'am. You can take your belongings and head to your gate now."

Seduced by Innocence #Review #IOBTs

BLURB:
Seduction comes in many forms.

"Liquid fire poured into me, filling me with the intimate sense of him as he leaned in to claim my lips with his own. I reached for him, needing him closer, but my arms couldn't close the distance between us, which grew wider with each hitched breath. So close to finally feeling something real, something carnal and deep, I cried out in frustration, dropping my hands as he disappeared. My cries deepened into a frenzy of panic and my eyes flew open. I clutched my blanket and stilled myself to calm my racing heart.

Just a dream. Always just a dream."

Rose Wintersong didn't have an ordinary upbringing. Raised in what most would call a hippy commune, but what is actually a powerful coven of witches, she never questions the life fate chose for her.>

Until she meets Derek O'Conner.

Derek challenges everything Rose believes and forces her to see the secrets hidden beneath the whitewashed walls of her idyllic country life.

Rose knows she should walk away, that the sexy martial arts instructor is bad news bred to create discord in her tight community… but the animal magnetism between them is impossible to fight.

Caught between the passion of first love, and the steady beat of the life she's always known, Rose must choose between the innocence of her youth or the pleasures of womanhood—but lost innocence comes at a price, and Rose harbors a dark secret that could destroy everyone she loves—including Derek. >

Submit to the Seduced Saga as Derek and Rose face their future while unraveling the mysteries of their past.
