My Thoughts : 

I warned you when I reviewed The Last One (book 1) that I couldn't wait for another installment. It's finally here! We met Ali, who is Sam's sister, in the last book and I was anxious to read her story.  I won a book from Tawdra in a book party recently and she asked me which one was my favorite so she could send it to me.  As I told her, the most recent is always my favorite and then she goes and writes another one that takes it's place. There are so very many things that I love about this book, let's try to narrow it down. 

The Characters - 

Ali-  I love Ali. She is a strong independent woman.  She has worked her ass off not only raising her daughter from a young age but also helping her brother work the farm and save it after their parents died.  Did she make some mistakes? Hell yes! But we all make mistakes and I have to give her some leniency - she was very young.

Flynn- Our long lost hero who got the hell outta dodge and stayed gone as long as he possibly could. He has nursed his hurt at Ali not leaving after graduation with him and when he finds out her secret, he may not be able to forgive her.  Will he learn to accept his portion in what lead up to it? Will he come to realize that in leaving town and getting away, he also left his friends and family behind? Flynn is our hunky hero who comes back to town years later - a huge success and a hunk that has everyone swooning yet again!

Alex - I can't leave Alex out because he has my heart. I absolutely love Alex and I hope that someday Tawdra will see fit to venture out and give him his own story. Darling, he is perfection.  Best friend to both our hero & heroine, he is able to see both sides of the story and isn't afraid to set them straight when need be.  

The Story- 

The story switches back and forth between present and past as we learn more of Ali & Flynn's story and what lead to the current state of disaster.  Why did Ali choose not to leave with Flynn after graduation? Why did he never come back and try to work things out?  How did she manage to keep her secret for all these years?  It's a story of love, loss, secrets and lies. This is the perfect second chance romance.  I found myself arguing both sides of the story and shaking my head at times.  I cried more than a few tears with this one - have your tissues handy! 

As always, I loved getting the glimpse into Meghan & Sam's lives again and making guesses at who the next installment will be about! ( I know who it is ... do you?  )  

If you are looking for a well written romance, look no further than one of Tawdra's stories!  I highly recommend this series.  Although this could be read and enjoyed as a stand alone, I recommend reading The Last One first :)

This series seems to be all about lessons for me. We were introduced to Liam & Ava back in Best Served Cold (book 1) where I learned how I can really hold a grudge against someone.  Just Desserts ( Book 2) had Liam & Ava hooking up and I slowly had to learn to love him and forgive him for his rude treatment of Julia.  In I Choose You ( Book 3), I found myself getting all righteous when Julia's mother is aghast that Ava dare bring Liam to Julia's wedding.  Hello woman, we forgave him in the LAST Book!  Geesh, move on already!  

There are so many things I loved about I Choose You.  The mere fact that this is the third book with the same group of people and we get to watch them slowly grow and mature just tickles my happy bone.  We start out with Julia & Jesse's wedding - which in itself makes me happy that we got to share in that moment.  The stress of a wedding and Bridezilla makes Ava wonder if Liam is going to pop the question when his parents' marriage is in shambles.   The moment he does - in a very unplanned unorthodox way, I melted because it was simply perfect.  :sigh: I'm so glad I decided to forgive him and fall in love with him in Book 2!   The wedding planning, family drama and struggle to stay sane amidst it all is more than many could handle but Ava seems to pull it off with flair. I definitely felt like the author was able to wrap up this couple's story with a bow on top.  There aren't many stories where I feel like they ended where I wanted them to... I do hope that we get to take small peeks at Ava & Liam in future books but I am thrilled with the way their story ended for now :)

This series just keeps getting better and better. I love the characters complete with their own flaws, the sweet romance and steamy scenes!  Tawdra has done it yet again and I can't wait to read more of her work!!

Real People, or Real Characters ?

One of the most frequent questions readers ask me is if any of my characters are based on people I know.

The answer is, of course, yes.  And no.

My son told me once that he had read every person we dream about, even if we don't know them by name, we've seen at some point in our lives, because the human brain is incapable of manufacturing a face.  If that's true, I pose that characters are the same way:  we cannot create traits or quirks, but we can mix them up in new ways to form completely different people.

Cathryn Whitmore, who was introduced in The King Series and has since been in both my short stories and in The Serendipity Duet, got her name from my youngest daughter, Cate.  Cathryn shares a few tendencies with my Cate: they both like to be in control, and they're petite.  But my Cate is a much happier, freer spirit than Ms. Whitmore.  That was just a jumping off point.

Someone once told me that they thought Michael from The King Series was based on my dad.  That was not intentional, but it's probably accurate.  I wrote him for the first time in the wake of my parents' deaths, so if Michael comes across a little too good to be true, I can only say... well, you have never met my father.

Jocelyn in Undeniable has been a blast to write.  Confident, self-assured and passionate, she is the perfect foil for Rafe, whose broken heart and subsequent cross-country tear of women and booze has left him slightly cynical and defensive.  Rafe needed someone to stand up to him, and Joss is definitely it.  But I'm not sure if she's got anyone I know in her.. I guess time will tell.

Meanwhile, if you meet me, watch out:  you're fair game for a new character in the next book.   Better mind your manners.

Character interview with Amanda Gallaugher

 

“Amanda Gallaugher is one of Meara Faulk’s best friends. Today I would like to ask her some questions to see if we can learn a little more about her. So much about Amanda is a mystery, so it may not be an easy task to get her to open up to us,” I said just before Amanda walked into the room. Her long legs and body are partially hidden by the sway of her extremely lengthy blonde hair. Tossing her hair over her shoulder, she sat in the straight backed chair in front of me, blue eyes sparkling with mischief while her face remained impassive.

“I hear that you wanted to talk to me. Well make it quick. I have important pack matters I must get back to and a child to find.”

“Sorry to take you away from such important tasks, but people want to know more about you. You come and go so often that it is hard to really know much about who you really are.”

“I rather like it that way,” Amanda said somewhat quietly.

“Well let’s get started so that we don’t take up too much of your time. Where are you from? How did you end up in the Miami Valley Pack?” Phaedra read from a list of questions in front of her.

“I’m from Lewistown, Montana. I’m with Miami Valley Pack because they took me in when I needed a pack to call home.”

“So you were a werewolf before you came to Ohio?”

Amanda looked down at her shoes. “Yes, but I really would say that I was more a wolf before I came here than a werewolf.”

“What made you come all the way to Ohio? Why didn’t you find a pack in Montana?” I decided to abandon the question sheet allowing curiosity to get the best of me.

“There was no reason to stay in Montana. You’ll learn all about my reason for leaving in the third book. Let’s just say that nothing good was going to happen to me if I stayed there. I needed a fresh start.” Amanda’s eyes flashed with sadness and anger. She held her head up high in defense of her decision to leave home.

“Let’s move to something else then.” I shuffled the papers in front of me looking for a different line of questioning. “It’s pretty obvious that your alpha, Garret Caldwell, has a thing for you. Have you ever considered a relationship with him?”

“What female werewolf wouldn’t? He’s the alpha. It’s always a good thing to have your alpha desire you, but I have my heart set on someone else. I couldn’t pursue anything with Garret without knowing if my feelings for this other guy are real. I let Garret play his games; he needs the flirting practice anyway. He’s so used to just getting what he wants, that I kind of feel like it’s my job to make him work for it.” Amanda’s face lit up with a brilliant smile.

“So who is it that you really want then?”

“Oh, I really have a thing for the nerdy types. I realize I am supermodel material and that leaves all the pretty guys falling all over me all the time, but I like a man that actually has a brain. A man that has a heart for others as well…” She stared off into space imaging this dream guy.

“A guy like…Dr. Ian perhaps? There’s been some hints to you two having something more than friendship going on there.”

Amanda blushed. “Yeah he’s definitely my type.” As if thinking of Dr. Ian brought back some other memory, her face instantly went impassive and businesslike. “Speaking of him, I really should get back to the pack. This has been fun, but I have work to do.” She stood up holding out her hand to me. “It was nice talking with you.”

I shook her hand somewhat bewildered by the change in attitude. “Likewise. I hope we learn even more about you soon.”

“Oh you will,” she said over her shoulder as she left the room.

Phaedra Seabolt is the youngest of four and the only girl. She spent her childhood trying to be the best she could be at everything she did which drove her to attend college long enough to attain her master's degree. Now she is a stay at home mom and happily married.
