Bloodcraft by @amaliehoward #Giveaway

BLOODCRAFT
Release: December 15th, 2015
Cover design by Alan Pranke

All magic has its price, and no one knows that better than Victoria Warrick. Gifted with a centuries-old blood curse, Tori has finally learned to master her blood’s demands and has emerged triumphant with Christian Devereux, a vampire overlord, at her side.

But the worst is yet to come …

In the infamous City of Lights, home to both the Witch Clans and the Vampire Council, Tori enrolls at the exclusive Belles Fontaines school in Paris, where she is faced with a devastating choice: choose Christian and be an outcast, or choose the coven and secure her place with the witches.

When the fate of the supernatural world is targeted by a sinister new threat, Christian and Victoria must unite their two warring species to defeat it. Their bond will be tested, twisted, and sorely weakened, and Tori will find herself in uncharted territory—a dangerous place to be when her blood’s magic has its own dark agenda.

But to save them all, she may have no choice but to invoke its deadly power.

~ Excerpt ~

When Seth insisted on taking their gear to a guest bedroom, Natti slowly paced the house, trying to get a feel for her new surroundings. It made her think back to when she first arrived in Setemple and how the little grey house she left behind didn’t feel like home. All she wanted was her little brick townhouse back in London. The cabin, however, was just plain unwelcoming. Despite the beautiful colored walls, the antique furniture, the honey-oak cabinets, and stainless steel appliances, something didn’t feel right about it. Like she was stepping on someone’s grave. Not that Mandy was dead, though from what Natti understood from Seth about “Thought Reform,” she might as well be. It just felt . . . wrong. On so many levels. And the more she explored, the worse the feeling grew. Her stomach twisted, and a chill took hold of Natti’s soul, very similar to the chill Sean’s magic had left behind for days after he kidnapped her.
Not really watching where she was going, she turned into a room that was a mix of pure white and mauve. Her attention was first drawn to the bed and cherry-stained headboard perpendicular to the threshold she stood in. The pillow shams were a soft, pastel pink, and a single plush toy—a black cat with a scarab necklace and earrings—sat on a mauve bed spread.
Natti walked up to the bed and picked up the plush cat, recognizing it as the goddess Bastet. The same goddess her grandmother had named Natti’s cat after. She missed the little Egyptian Mau. She also missed her Anubis, the plush toy Seth had won and given to her at the Pharaoh’s Festival. She had no doubt Seth had won this Bastet for Mandy from the same vendor, maybe not too long ago. Yet she couldn’t feel any disgust toward the toy. In fact, it was the one thing she found comforting in the entire house.
Keeping the cat close to her breast, she walked to a corkboard where Mandy had pinned up several old beauty pageant announcements and high school newsletter clippings. The most recent being a black and white cut out featuring Ky, Seth’s best friend, decked out in his football uniform. He was obviously getting down with the Setemple High Cheer Squad in what looked like some sort of victory dance. The caption under the photograph stated, “Touch Down!”
School spirit must have really been her thing.
Slowly, Natti took one more turn about the room. Other than a few trophies and trinkets placed on a few barren shelves, it was much like the rest of the cabin. The only difference was all the scattered golden-framed pictures. Most were professional photographs of Mandy. A few were with her friends or Seth’s. But the one that particularly caught Natti’s eye was a selfie placed on the dresser. She raised it, studying Mandy’s serene face and feathered-out, curly blond hair. The image was in a funky, diagonal perspective that gave little detail of the setting, and a gleaming light took up the little background that was visible. Yet the subject focus was crystal clear. Mandy was laying on her stomach with Seth’s bare chest hovering over her nude body. His lips captured in the middle of tracing kisses along her shoulder blade.
A sour mixture of jealousy and sorrow percolated in Natti’s stomach. And here Seth was acting as if Mandy meant nothing. She couldn’t sense any lie to his words then, but the suggestive form of her lips and her trusting expression confirmed Mandy felt a bond between them. Something that wasn’t created through his magic or Connection. Bile rose into Natti’s throat, and her gut twisted into knots. How could Seth not realize what he truly was to her? How could he think their years together, magic or no, wouldn’t affect her emotions?
“Guess the tour is out,” Seth remarked, making Natti nearly drop the frame.

“…do it in Jeri’s old room.”

Earl’s words filtered through the cotton stuffing in my head, barely making sense.

“Yeah, well, seemed fitting.” He paused. “Listen, Richard, I called you as a courtesy, on account of how you said one got away from you yesterday. But it took me an hour after the girl collapsed to get the boy to finally conk out, and with that damn scum-sucker metabolism of theirs, you know I can’t promise either of ‘em will be down for long. You and your boys want any part of this, you better hurry up and get here.”

Alarm struggled through me, weighed down by an exhaustion that wanted to smother my mind back into sleep. Scum-sucker? He…

“Hang on,” Earl said as though interrupting someone. “One of them ain’t breathing the same as they were.”

My heart began to pound harder while I fought to open my eyes. Breathing? He sounded so far away. How could he hear anyone breathing?

Footsteps clunked on the hardwood floor. Light pierced the blackness around me as I managed to lift my eyelids. I was on the bed, facing the doorway. In the window seat, Zeke was slumped, his head resting on the wall. The room was dark around us, though the hall light was on.

Earl came to the door. In one hand, he held a phone to his ear, and at the sight of me, he made an angry noise.

“What’d I tell you? The girl’s awake.”

He dropped the phone onto the window seat as he strode toward me, and all my dull commands to my muscles couldn’t make my body move. Striding past me, he retrieved something from the dresser and then returned with a sports bottle in his hand.

I tried to pull away, but he just reached down and grabbed my head from behind, lifting it toward him. With his teeth, he popped open the top of the bottle and then shoved it into my mouth.

Bitter-tasting liquid flooded my throat. I choked, the drink spewing from my lips, but he just dropped the bottle and clamped an enormous hand over the lower half of my face.

“Swallow,” he ordered.

I stared up at him. His grip tightened on my hair, tugging at my scalp.

“Now.”

Life in her underwater home of Nyciena has always been fun and games to Ina Ociras, until now. Her brothers are missing. Her father is gone. ~An Awakened Fate Novella which follows Return, Book Three of the Awakened Fate Series~
The guards took up positions beside me when I left the room and headed for the main hall.

“Princess.”

I tried not to swear, knowing anyone who overheard would only use it as gossip about my current mental state.

But a slew of choice words presented themselves.

This wasn’t fair, I told the universe silently. Not even a little bit.

I glanced back to see Egan swimming down the hall toward me. With his silver scales, dark eyes, and hair so light it seemed like snow even though he was only a year older than me, he looked like a sculptor’s dream, and just as incredible as ever.

It only made me hate him a little bit more. Killing that damn flutter in my stomach would’ve been so much easier if he was ugly.

Skye Malone is a fantasy and paranormal romance author, which means she spends most of her time not-quite-convinced that the magical things she imagines couldn't actually exist. A Midwestern girl who migrated to the Pacific Northwest, she dreams someday of travelling the world – though in the meantime she’ll take any story that whisks her off to a place where the fantastic lives inside the everyday. She loves strong and passionate characters, complex villains, and satisfying endings that stay with you long after the book is done. An inveterate writer, she can’t go a day without getting her hands on a keyboard, and can usually be found typing away while she listens to all the adventures unfolding in her head.
